Travel operating room (OR) nurses take short-term assignments supporting surgical teams — circulating, scrubbing, and managing the perioperative environment. These are specialized contracts at hospitals and surgical centers that need experienced OR staff on short notice, and the listings here reflect real openings.
Beyond an active (ideally compact) RN license and BLS/ACLS, OR travel roles require demonstrated operating-room experience — often two or more years — and familiarity with surgical specialties, sterile technique, and intraoperative workflows. CNOR certification strengthens an application.
Because OR nursing is a high-skill specialty, travel packages tend to sit at the higher end of the travel-nursing range, with housing and meal stipends on top of the hourly rate. Assignments in this specialty can be competitive; a current skills checklist and references speed up placement.
